There have been several people who have said (informally) that we need to update our front page ( http://www.jos.org/index.html ) Suggestions?

The goal for the front page is to:

  1. Get causual browsers to sign up on our announce list
  2. Get programmers into the "hard hat" area.
  3. Tell everyone that we're working hard.... but we don't have product.. yet.
  4. Keep people excited. Perhaps once a month we need to update it with a "progress report" static page? and ask them to check back?
Please Comment. - ClarkEvans

Whenever I show JOS to one of my friends, they never seem to be able to find the collaboration area. I think that the different places that one can go to from the front page should be communicated better. Maybe even something like this:

* If you want to start working on JOS right away, go to the COLLABORATION AREA
* If you want to stay informed on the progress of JOS, sign up for one of our MAILING LISTS
etc.

If somebody subscribes to any list, they should automatically be added to the anounce list. It took me a while to subscribe to the lists I was interested in. Announce wasn't high on my priorities. Hmm, Oh! Could I have sent a single mail to Majordomo@spin.de with multiple subscribe messages? Then sent an acknowledge with multiple access codes? Well, I didn't think of that when I was doing it. --PehrAnderson

I've just been exploring and saw ListBot on the HTTPd server project pages (outside JOS). It looks like a really handy interface for controlling list access. That would be a real perk for list management. --PehrAnderson

What happened to the previous suggestions that were made (on this page)? Were they just deleted? --LestonBuell 07 mar 98

Hmm. Suggestions weren't deleted that I know of. Please continue. With the revision control back on line and the mandatory signatures we can better track if/when they become deleted again. These suggestions are great.... :) Clark

Changes are underway. Please see WebOverhaul for more details.
