A note: Only country and language names that are different from the English version need be updated in the properties file, as accesses will automatically fall through to the English code.

Peter, i have mailed an italian translation to you geocities mail account. An dutch translation should follow promptly.

Right now, internationalization for JOS is limited to translating the java.util.Locale language and country names. Later that won't be true.
Right now, get a copy of the LocaleNames*.properties hierarchy: http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/9885/properties.zip and edit away to your heart's content. The .properties files are typically named LocaleNames_xx.properties, where xx is the language code. (Country and language names rarely vary from country to country within a linguistic region.)
See packages this is associated with: java.text and java.util
