Notes from this meeting (move later?)(in UTC)
Attending:
(20:15)For further meetings:
- Give times in UTC, CET, EST, (Clark)
- Try and get chat logging working (Markus is already working on it)
New business (no old yet)
1Q1998: Summary report
- New wiki, Source Server, Pretty Printer, Chat
- Two possible kernels explored RTEMS and OSKit
- RTEMS background explained by Clark
JFA:
- JOS supports the JavaLobby and JFA but does not think they belong together.
- Clark states his belief that JFA will be hurt if kept a part of JL
- No one disagrees.
RTEMS:(20:45)
- Kaffe is discussed briefly. It needs serious hacking before it will be useful to us.
- Japhar is mentioned, but none present seem to know much about it.
- Clark will email an RTEMS summary out this week
- Japhar discussion should start on the kernel list.
Kernel/General:(2100)
- The idea of hacking Linux to provide a development platform is explored.
- This gives us a working platform to build off of now, so non kernel work can get started.
- Also discussed is an RTEMS based development platform, with Linux drivers
- JosDevelopmentPlatform is started to discuss such things.
- It looks like JOS will be using RTEMS for it's base.
JVM:
- There is an existing port of Kaffe to RTEMS, but it needs some work still.
- JVM group needed, see JVMGroup
Goals for 2Q1998:
- A bootable jvm
- A license
- More applications or beans (browser?)
- support for non-awt classfiles (?)
Personal notes:
- Clark will be a lot less accessible over the next two months as he works on a book about free software and free OSes. This will bring JOS some press when it is published, but it will keep him very busy for awhile.
Broke up about 21:45 or so.
